Biweekly Dev Update: December 27th, 2023

Alas, the last update of 2023. Merry Christmas to all our good friends, and here’s to all of us having a wonderful start of the new year.

Touch grass (or touch snow) this merry time of year during which gifts go under evergreen conifers and sound of joyous laughter fill the hallways. To maximize your holiday time, we’re keeping this week’s update short.

Here we go.

Buy crypto, in KryptoGO Wallet

This feature was developed quite a while ago, as OG readers may remember from the very first dev update of 2023. However, back then we ran into a few problems with cash flow; regulations are particularly strict when it comes to crypto purchases. While we temporarily disabled this feature, it is now back on the table.

Once a user finishes identity verification, they can buy cryptocurrency directly in the wallet. Note that the maximum amount available for purchase per person per week is 1,000 USD, and every transaction must be 100 USD minimum.

Send tokens directly in Chatrooms

Imagine: you’re happily chatting with your friend in the chatroom and suddenly they ask for lunch money that you owe them… in crypto. You have to exit the chatroom, and go all the way to the Home Screen to press the Send button? Ew.

Well, no more. We’ve built a Send Token option right into Chatrooms. It redirects you to the Send Screen and automatically fills in the correct wallet address to transfer to. No more excuses to not give your friend back their lunch money.

Improved Send Screen Statuses

In the Send Screen, we have separated the messages for insufficient funds and insufficient gas fees, which were previously combined, to enhance clarity and reduce user confusion.

Send Screen statuses now differentiates between insufficient funds and insufficient gas fees.

Progressive Web App (PWA) Wallet

We covered our PWA wallet in the last update, and we did some additional work this week.

  • Added additional ways to login (phone, email, or through Google).
  • Resolved an issue where the total portfolio value shown is wrong.
  • Fixed a bug where clicking on certain NFTs would result in a blank screen.
  • Resolved an issue where users, who initially chose to sign up with a Google Account and then exited the registration flow to select a different sign-up method like phone or email, were incorrectly presented with the ‘restore wallet from Google’ option, despite not having created an account yet.

Again, we offer a demonstration here of how the PWA wallet may work. However, note that this is but a prototype and things are prone to break — use it at your own risk. If you have any ideas or feedback, let us know!

Other Bugfixes

  • Fixed a bug where users who have backed up their wallets using key shards would nevertheless only be prompted to restore their wallets using their passwords (they should have the option to restore their wallets from cloud).
  • Resolved an issue preventing certain users, who registered accounts prior to our security updates, from logging in successfully.
  • Resolved a bug that sometimes led to unreasonably high Tron gas fees.
  • Fixed a bug where clicking on the ‘identity verified’ notification would incorrectly direct the user to Home > Wallet tab.

That’s it for this week! Go enjoy the rest of 2023 :)
