Users enter their date of birth, gender, and a question about their future, and the site generates a custom report. The onboarding process was standard for platforms that need to comply with financial regulations. It involved uploading a government-issued ID, a selfie, and a photo of him holding that same ID. A few business days later, his store was approved and ready to go.Within the first two weeks, Dorara had tens of paying customers — not a unexpected viral hit, but enough to show early traction and potential for steady growth. Lemon Squeezy processes payouts twice a month, and as the first payout cycle approached, Dorara was optimistic.But instead, he received this email:<img src="https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:700/1*rJNf6eaPRUf51N1_1HiDkQ.png" alt="" width="700" height="694" loading="eager">the emailSubject: Store Suspension — Lemon Squeezy Risk Review From: Lemon Squeezy Risk Team Date: Tuesday, Jun 24 at 2:50 PM<blockquote>Hey there,[name] here from Lemon Squeezy’s Risk Team.I’m afraid I have some unfortunate news.Recently, your store has come up in a risk review. We are required by card companies to minimise risk and adhere to their risk standards.Unfortunately, based on the sales data of your store and the niche of your product, we are unable to continue supporting your business moving forward. This is in accordance with our ToS 7.1.5 which all sellers agree to upon joining Lemon Squeezy.Card companies audit stores we support. When requested, we have to provide extensive data to explain why we allow certain stores to continue when they’ve exceeded defined risk thresholds.In your case, the data doesn’t sway in your favour to put card companies at ease. Subsequently, you’ll soon need to find another platform which can take on the risk of your store.We take no joy in this action, as your store was previously approved in good faith to be on Lemon Squeezy. Financial services tend to be an interconnected web of partnerships, and in this case we don’t have the last say in the matter.Your Store’s been suspended on 24th June 2025.Then on 27th June, we will transfer your final payout.We have to wait a bit longer for the final payout in case any disputes happen. In such cases, we’d need to use your balance to cover refunds and dispute fees for your store.My sincere apologies for the suddenness of this email. I know it’s not welcome, and I’m really sorry I can’t write you with better news.If you have any further questions, happy to follow up in a prompt and professional manner.</blockquote>That was it — no warning, no advance notice, no chance to adjust. Just an abrupt shutdown, and a payout scheduled a few days later (assuming no disputes come in).Dorara’s product is legal. His customers are satisfied. He’s responsive over email and social media, quickly answering questions and helping users when needed. But due to opaque “risk thresholds” enforced by card companies — and relayed through platforms like Lemon Squeezy — his store was gone.Appeals didn’t help. The store remains closed. If he wants to continue building his product, he’ll need to start over with a new payment provider.This is why censorship resistance matters. Most platforms — even the friendly-looking ones — aren’t built to protect small creators when upstream partners say no.
